Since When the Ocean Flies launched in February, I’ve had the great delight of connecting with podcasters and bloggers to discuss the novel and several of its themes, including adoptee life, intergenerational grief, the power of love, writing through intergenerational trauma, where ideas come from. I’ll get to podcast links and blog topics in another post. I’m here today because I have an upcoming in-person event that I’m delighted about. In two weeks, I’ll be in Brunswick, Maine with three other fabulous female authors to discuss women in publishing and, of course, our works—novels and memoirs.
If you’re in or near Maine, or know someone who is, we’d love to see you there.
For those of you who can’t make it to the event, I’ve recorded a wee reading (at the top) of the very start of When the Ocean Flies. I also highly recommend Melanie, Kathleen, Deborah and Gina’s books.
And for those of you who have been writing creative nonfiction and are looking for a place to publish, Vine Leaves Press is still accepting submissions for its International Voices Creative Nonfiction Competition. I can’t speak enough goodness about this fabulous press. If you have something that you think might fit, please submit!
Thanks for reading!
P.S. If you haven’t got your copy of When the Ocean Flies yet, it’s available at all the usual places, including Bookshop.org, where (at no additional cost to you) you can support your favorite indie bookshop. Don’t have a favorite? Consider M. Judson Booksellers in Greenville, SC.
P.P.S. If you’ve read (and liked) When the Ocean Flies, please consider leaving me a review—just a sentence or two would be wonderful—on Amazon and/or Goodreads. They matter so very much (more than I would like them to) in terms of getting the book out in the wide world and into the hands and hearts of readers.
